THE DOOR III : INITIATION Invitation

HOM Art Trans presents the final leg of the Door exhibition series entitled the Door III: Initiation, scheduled to run from 19 April to 3 May 2014.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 2014 - The exhibition solidifies its focus on three emerging talents: Arikwibowo Amril, Shafiq Nordin and Hisyamuddin Abdullah. The trio are UiTM graduates who made the cut from The Door (Sept 2012) and The Door II: Plight (May 2013). This exhibition will feature 17 works that engage with issues of identity, power struggle, and social observations.

“Arikwibowo Amril demonstrates his strengths and new explorations with his charcoal works. Driven by his cultural interpretation and fascination with shadow, Arik downplays the light and shifts focus onto the shadows that have been lurking around him. Still consistent in his symbolic treatment is Shafiq Nordin, known stylistically to combine and depict print technique with a painterly approach. Those who are familiar with Shafiq Nordin in the recent MEA Awards will continue to see his signature linocut weaving of lines and retro pop color accents. Hisyamuddin Abdullah continues to keep it simple with his expression through portraits. His works stem from a very simple intention: to draw parallels between political icons and famous artists. He intends to explore the relationships and social identities of select figures of influence by pairing portraits of authority with iconic artists,” quotes Jessica Ho, curator for the The Door II and The Door III exhibitions.

“The Door is an ongoing program aimed at young and upcoming artists by providing them with a form of assistance relating to sustainability during their tentative few years trying to build a career as visual artists. It is a three-year program whereby a group of fresh graduates are selected to participate in three group exhibitions at HOM within the span of three years. In between producing works for each exhibition, HOM will provide expert supervision and professional guidance in the areas of art production as well as career development,” states Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Director of HOM Art Trans.

“By providing this supervision, accompanied with an exhibition for each year to showcase the results, it is hoped that participants will benefit in terms of the higher standards of their output followed by greater exposure to art lovers and supporters who will contribute to their livelihood. The Door’s program is designed to help facilitate the opening of opportunities for the artists to look into factors that will help them become successful”, he adds.

Exhibition venue will take place at HOM Art Trans, 6A Jalan Cempaka 16 Taman Cempaka 68000 Ampang Selangor. The official opening will take place on Saturday, 19 April 2014 at 8:30 pm and will be officiated by Prof. Madya Jalaini Abu Hassan, Associate Professor, Graduate School of Art and Design, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).  Everyone is welcomed to attend the opening.
